Create open-top boxes with a stacking mechanism. The bottom panel is raised so that recesses along the bottom edge and tabs along the top edge of the side walls interlock when boxes are stacked.

Stacking Mechanism

Stacking tabs on top and recesses at the bottom with 30° chamfers interlock securely when stacking.

Raised Bottom

The bottom panel sits raised inside the box, leaving room for the stacking mechanism underneath.

Optional Handle Cutouts

Rounded handle cutouts on the short sides make the boxes easy to carry.

Tips for Stackable Boxes

  • Material thickness: 4–6 mm plywood works best. Thinner materials can become unstable when stacked.
  • Stacking mechanism: The height of the stacking tabs matches the material thickness. The safety margin to the bottom panel prevents boxes from slipping.
  • Handle cutouts: Placed on the short sides by default. The width should be at least 60 mm for a comfortable grip.
  • Test cut: Build a small test box first to check the fit of the finger joints.
