Bracket Designer
Create shelf and mounting brackets entirely on the laser cutter or CNC router: two legs finger-jointed at the corner, up to three triangular ribs that slot into both legs with tabs, and screw holes in the right place. Every dimension is adjustable, and the 3D preview shows the bracket mounted on wall and shelf.
Style
The style shapes the rib and the free leg ends: Classic (straight or arc), Bauhaus (circle, half-round ends), Truss (triangular cells, chamfers) and Practical (the rib ends in a hook).
Legs
Length of the vertical leg, measured on the outside of the corner.
Length of the horizontal leg, measured on the outside of the corner.
Width of both legs along the corner – this is where the finger joint sits.
Target width of the corner fingers; the width is split into an odd number of equal segments.
Corner: 5 segments of 12mm
Ribs
Triangular ribs spread evenly across the width; they slot into both legs with tabs.
Rib length along the wall leg, from the inner corner.
Rib length along the shelf leg, from the inner corner.
The tabs sit in the inner three quarters of each edge; beyond the rib there is room for the screw holes.
Screw holes
On wide brackets in two columns left and right of the rib along the whole leg, on narrow ones in a line in the free area beyond the rib. A single hole always sits centred beyond the rib.
Diameter of the screw holes, e.g. 4.5 mm for 4 mm screws.
Material
Thickness of all parts; fingers and tabs are exactly this deep.
Extra width of the rib slots so the tabs slide in without force.
Width of the laser beam or end mill; contours are offset accordingly.
Spacing between parts in the cut layout.
How many brackets go into the cut file – usually 2 for a shelf.
Finger-jointed corner
The legs interlock at the corner with fingers just like the Box Designer – the finger layout is calculated from width and material thickness, with kerf compensation.
Ribs in four styles
Up to three ribs, spread evenly across the width, with tabs through slots in both legs. Pick a style: Classic (straight or arc), Bauhaus, Truss or Practical – where the rib ends in a hook – each with matching leg ends.
Screw holes & export
Choose the number and diameter of holes per leg; they are placed automatically in the free area beyond the rib. Export as SVG, DXF or PDF, STEP and STL for 3D CAD.
Usage Tips
- Material: 8–12 mm plywood or solid wood for shelf brackets that carry load; 4–6 mm is enough for décor and light shelves.
- Load capacity: The rib carries the load – make it as long as possible and fix the wall leg at the top, where the screw is in tension. For heavy shelves use two ribs and wider legs.
- Assembly: Glue the fingers and the rib tabs; the tabs finish flush on the outside and can be sanded flat once dry.
